What is Whacktown?
In Whacktown, it’s every man for himself! Violence is always the answer because life as a gangster is risky and tough. You and your gang move around a randomly generated city map, occupy locations, play hustle cards, and try to either take out everyone else or be the first to reach 10 reputation points. Whacktown doesn’t require much explanation. You can jump right in and start beating each other up with baseball bats. For connoisseurs, Whacktown is the perfect nightcap, offering tactical depth and high entertainment value.
How do I play?
Each round consists of three steps:
- Move: Move your gang and trigger the effects of the target location.
- Hustle: Play as many Hustle cards as you want. To play a Hustle card, you must discard other cards as a cost.
- Chill: Draw cards and pass to the next player.
Damage effects affect all other players. Armor acts as extra health points but can be damaged and repaired later.
Some locations can only be entered under certain conditions, such as having sufficient money, information, reputation, or health. Others require little; good overview and timing are everything. You win when you wipe out all the other players or become the most respected gangster boss in town with a reputation of 10.
Mechanics and Gameplay
- Access Control: Locations are selectively accessible. You must plan how to reach them while trying to prevent your rivals from reaching their destinations.
- Card Management: Hustle cards have costs. To play them, you must discard other cards from your hand, creating a constant balancing act between short-term advantage and long-term hand management.
- Sudden Twists: If you’re not careful, someone might suddenly throw a bomb into your living room.
- It’s everyone against everyone: All effects affect multiple opponents, creating confrontation and explosive moments.
